A number of locations in the Kendall area will be searched "over the coming weeks" in relation to the 2014 disappearance of three-year-old William Tyrrell, the State Crime Command Director and Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Bennett confirmed to the press during a brief appearance at an undisclosed location in New South Wales on Monday.
"That's going to involve many hundreds of police officers involved in searching a number of locations. This activity is in response to evidence we've obtained in the course of the investigation.
It's not speculative in any way. We're acting on behalf of the coroner," said the police chief who declined to elaborate on what the search would consist of.
Tyrrell went missing at the age of three in September 2014 and is believed to have been abducted.
Despite extensive searches over the years, his whereabouts or those of his alleged abductor(s) remain unknown.
